Biography

Czech born Scottish artist,  Lida lives in Berwickshire and draws her inspiration from the landscape surrounding her home: the Tweed valley,  the  Northumberland countryside she can see from her home, and particularly the Lammermuirs which provide a rich source of inspiration for her work.   She returns to sketch and draw the hills in every season because of their changing mood, and drama. The Lammermuirs are also the theme of her latest series of paintings. Working en-plein-air is essential to her practice:  in the studio she develops the sketches and drawings, interpreting  rather than copying them, abstracting shapes and rhythms, aiming at capturing the fluidity and dynamism of the hills, as well as trying to use materials to express the rich textural surfaces of the landscape.
